Corrosion on a steel pipeline usually does not start in the middle of a pipe, but at the welded joint and wherever the protective layer was damaged during transport or installation. That is why tapes and primer are used as a system: the primer prepares and saturates the cleaned surface, the black anti-corrosive tape provides the sealing function, and the white mechanical tape over it takes impact and soil pressure. Both tape types are supplied in widths from 50 to 150 mm, so the choice can be matched to pipe diameter and to whether only the joint or the full pipe length is wrapped. The solution is used for both buried and above-ground installations, and the most common application is protecting welded joints along routes where the pipe is factory-coated but the joints are left bare after welding. The advantage is that it is applied on site, without special equipment and without waiting for factory treatment.
